Welcome to Lutheran Lingo!
Martin Luther was a faithful Roman Catholic monk who dedicated
his life to serving Jesus Christ. When he posted his "95 Theses" on the door of Wittenberg Church, it was his intention
to engage the religious community in dialogue and debate of the Gospel. Instead, the Pope and other leaders of the Roman
Catholic Church called him a heretic, excommunicated him, and put a price on his head. Thus, he was instrumental
in spawning the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. His followers, much to his dismay, were called "Lutherans,"
and as time went by, the Lutheran church became a Christian church denomination in Germany and is now represented in most
countries in the World.

Martin Luther believed it was important for the Bible and all worship services to be in the language of the people.
He was the first person to translate the Bible into the German language. It is hoped that this Lutheran Lingo website
will be an easy-to-read and understand resource for those who would like to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and
the Lutheran understanding of it.
